Job Description:


Please note this is a full time role, working Tuesday-Saturday, 11:00-19:00.


As a Team Leader within Media you will oversee the team responsible for the timely and accurate production of media required within the microbiology laboratory, and to ensure all appropriate quality checks are performed.


Duties Include:


  • Ensure that sufficient media is produced and provided to the laboratory for the required workload and to this purpose, liaise closely with both main and pathogen laboratory technicians and team leaders
  • Organisation of and monitoring stock levels to ensure good rotation and sufficient stock for optimal lab operation
  • To ensure all media is produced in a safe and appropriate manner, and in line with standard operating procedures
  • To ensure the correct use of PPE at all times
  • To ensure standard operating procedures and safe working practice are complied with at all times, to ensure the safety of self and colleagues.
  • To ensure that all equipment is kept within recommended limits for calibration and maintenance in order to adhere to quality targets.
  • Ensure that production work is conducted in a clean and tidy manner with due attention to the careful maintenance of all laboratory fittings and equipment.
  • Advise Laboratory Manager without delay of any problems affecting operations in the production area of the laboratory
  • Ensuring that any relevant paperwork related to the production and QC of media is kept up to date.
  • Ensure all media quality checks are performed before use within the laboratories
  • Oversee the completion of the monthly stock take at the end of each month and ensure this is submitted to our finance department on time
  • Investigate any nonconforming work which may occur within your department / team members
  • Supervise staff in your team to ensure efficient operation of production shift
  • Ensure work area is run effectively
  • Recruitment of new staff and ensuring engaging and informative induction in place that gives new starter key skills and techniques to perform their role to a high standard
  • Managing and updating training matrices, ensuring staff members only perform tasks after full training and relevant documentation completed.
  • Run team briefing meetings on a regular basis to keep team updated and briefed on key matters relating to the site, customer and the team

Qualifications:


  • Educated to GCSE Level.
  • Experience in leading/supervising a team ideally within a Laboratory setting.
  • Stock Management experience
  • Good attention to detail and accuracy
  • Good organisation and time management
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to self motivate and motivate a team.
