Purpose of the Position


Responsible for the leadership of the Cutting Team, ensuring effective delivery of the Production Plan through the most efficient use of CNC cutting assets.


Roles and Responsibilities

  • Ensure that production requirements are met with regard to quality, cost and installation requirements.
  • Analyse team skill levels on an ongoing basis, implementing development plans for team members as required.
  • Responsible for team welfare including regular appraisals, probationary reviews, holiday and timekeeping management, and performance management (with support from HR).
  • Be a Health & Safety role model, ensuring that all company procedures are adhered to and that emerging hazards are identified and addressed at all times.
  • Ensure that all product cut is to the required quality standard, and that ISO 9001 requirements are fully met. Utilise cutting machines such that the efficiency of production areas _downstream_ are maximised, by eliminating manual tasks in later processes.
  • Supervise the checking of all cut panels to ensure that any push through or interlocking items are correct and fitforpurpose before being passed to other departments, similarly supporting subcontracted work.
  • Fully conversant with machine maintenance, servicing and running costs, ensuring that maintenance plans and routines are in place and adhered to for all equipment.
  • Manage an uptodate library of cutting programs.
  • Ensure that all cutting jobs are completed in full, identified, that the ERP system (M1) is utilised and administered correctly, production times are correctly booked to jobs, and jobs are effectively closed on the system.
  • Program cutting work to ensure machine capacity is maximised, the best cut is achieved on all materials to minimise finishing time and the best yield is obtained on all materials.
  • Drive a continuous improvement culture within the team, being an advocate and champion of improvement within the area. Root cause analyse all quality concerns, implementing corrective and preventative measures promptly. Monitor reasons for lost time on machines in order to continually drive improvement and efficiency.
  • Maintain workplace organisation standards at 5S levels.
  • Stay abreast of advances in cutting techniques and consumables and advise best practise.
  • Attend Production Meetings and provide ongoing reports of progress, minimising overdues and maximising schedule adherence.

Key Competencies

  • Ideally, working knowledge of signage manufacturing techniques and materials.
  • Ability to read/interpret technical drawings and visuals.
  • Excellent people management skills.
  • Can demonstrate a practical knowledge of Lean and Continuous Improvement techniques such as SMED, 5S, Standard Operations, Kaizen.
