ROLE OVERVIEW
As we continue to develop our data warehouse to meet the ever increasing demands from the business in regard to both internal and external reporting requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Be required to design, implement and document data architecture and data modelling solutions which include the use of relational and dimensional databases: these solutions are required to support enterprise information management, business intelligence, reporting and analysis
- Be responsible for the design and development of the conceptual, logical and physical data models of the data warehouse (including operational data store (ODS), info store, data marts)
- Contribute to the expansion of existing data architecture and the optimisation of data query performance via best practices
- Be able to work independently and collaboratively as part of the data warehouse team in a matrix environment
- Be able to use existing models, map to data dictionary components and extend where required
Responsibilities
- Understand and translate business needs into data models supporting longterm solutions for data analysis and reporting, preferably within financial services
- Work with the data warehouse development team to design, develop and implement conceptual data models and build data flows in line with agreed data strategies
- Create logical and physical data models using best practices to ensure high data quality and to meet the business requirements
- Optimise and update logical and physical data models to support new and existing projects
- Maintain conceptual, logical and physical data models along with corresponding metadata
- Develop best practices for standard naming conventions and coding practices to ensure consistency of data models
- Identify and recommend opportunities for reuse of data models in new environments
- Evaluate data models and physical databases for variances and discrepancies
- Validate business data objects for accuracy and completeness
- Develop data models according to the organisation's group standards whilst catering for local data needs
- Identify and recommend solutions on any project limitations and capabilities, performance requirements and interfaces
- 5+ years of handson relational, dimensional, and/or analytic experience (using RDBMS, dimensional, data platform technologies and ETL & data ingestion protocols)
- Handson modelling, design, configuration, installation, performance tuning, and sandbox POC
- Ability to work proactively and independently to address project requirements and articulate issues/challenges to reduce project delivery risks
- Detailed knowledge and experience in star schemas, ERDs and an indepth understanding of the difference between Kimball vs Inmon approach for building a data warehouse
- Experience with data warehouse, enterprise data platforms and data marts in multidatacentre contexts
- Good knowledge of metadata management, data modelling and related tools
- Experience in collaborating with business SMEs to understand context of business operation and data usage
- Experience with stakeholder engagement, communication and presentation
