The Teesside and North Yorkshire area has seen significant investment into oncology services alongside an expansion of consultant numbers.

The £35M oncology Endeavour unit at The James Cook University Hospital was opened in April 2012 and the Robert Ogden Cancer centre in Northallerton in 2018.

The department boasts an expanded chemotherapy unit designed to meet the increasing demand for systemic treatment and state of the art radiotherapy facilities.

The department has used the Chemocare electronic prescribing system for a number of years and has encouraged and established nurse-led and pharmacy-led chemotherapy clinics.

The department has a history of both developing and delivering innovative radiotherapy having had a lung SABR programme in place for many years.

Recognition of this technical expertise by Elekta, the linac manufacturer, has seen the department become their International reference site.
