The Consultant will join an enthusiastic and friendly team of 9 consultants based across Central Health Clinic, Bristol and WISH clinic Weston Super Mare.

You will be working with an experienced multidisciplinary team to deliver high quality integrated sexual healthcare.

The successful applicant will be required to provide Level 3 Genitourinary Medicine services in our busy open access clinics.

There will be opportunity to take on additional roles within the department, as well as specialist clinics depending on areas of clinical expertise.

An interest in teaching and research is desirable.


You must be on the GMC's Specialist Register for Genito-urinary Medicine, or other relevant specialty eg O&G, CSRH (or if a Specialist Registrar not yet enrolled, you must provide documentary evidence that you will have completed the relevant CCT within six months).

Dual training in contraception to DFSRH level is expected.

Clinical:

The post is 7.0 PA. The consultant may be required to do a session in Weston General Hospital or one of the Unity Sexual Health community based clinics

The post-holder should be competent to manage a Level 3 walk-in service independently and trouble shoot issues that arise. Expertise in management of complex Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) is essential.

There will be an opportunity to do at least one booked specialist sexual health or contraception list depending on clinical skills and Service need.


The Consultant will be involved in health promotion/ prevention including provision of PrEP, as we move to a more preventative model.

We want to focus on 3 main objectives in the Bristol North Somerset and South Gloucestershire area:

  • Reducing the proportion of people presenting with late diagnosis of HIV
  • Achieving a chlamydia diagnosis rate of 23 per 1000 in yr
  • Reducing conception rates in < 18 yrs


As with any consultant post, the job plan is negotiable dependent on the expertise of the post-holder and the developing requirements of the service.

1.05 sessions have been set aside for core supporting professional activities.

The service provides an Integrated Sexual Health clinic on Saturday morning between the hours of 9 and 1pm. This is a consultant led session and the post holder will be expected to work 1 in 7 Saturdays.
