Where you fit in

This team is accountable for the delivery and execution of the Group Corporate Relations strategy for the Shell Trading and Supply organisation.

This includes a mix of activities covering communication & reputation management, external representation and support for policy development.

Shell Trading and Supply (T&S) supports the Shell businesses by trading crude oil, refined products, chemical feedstocks, natural gas, electrical power and environmental products.

The global network of Shell Trading companies encompasses Shell's trading activities in every major energy market around the world. It also includes Shell's global shipping activities.


What is the role?

Objectives of the role:

Communications & Reputation:
Support the Shell Downstream Trading and Supply organisation, including through external communications and positioning.

Inform business decision making by bringing in a wide range of stakeholder insights, analysing often diverse reputation risks and making timely risk mitigation recommendations to Trading & Supply business leaders.


External Representation:

Position Shell as a credible partner to external stakeholders (including customers, business partners, policy makers, industry associations, coalitions, trade media, and NGOs) through innovative communication and advocacy approaches.


Policy:

Contribute to policy analysis and development of broader Shell policy positions, based on analysis of strategic and commercial impact to Trading & Supply, as well as the external policy environment.


Key responsibilities include:

  • As the Trading & Supply focal point for Corporate Relations support, lead development and execution of external announcements for global business milestones/moves/projects; drive a global plan that prioritises external engagements and conferences; provide assurance of marketing material for Trading & Supply.
  • Provide reputation management and communications advice to the senior leaders of the Crude, Oil Products, Chemical Feedstocks, Freight, Shipping, Commercial Operations and Distribution Operations teams. This includes providing insights and analysis; monitoring traditional and social media; and anticipating potential reputational issues for escalation to business leaders in a timely manner.
  • Partner with Regulatory/Compliance teams to provide business leaders with holistic reputation risk management advice around business development opportunities and potential transactions.
  • Frame the global storyline for Trading & Supply Crude, Oil Products and Low Carbon Fuels to drive a consistent and compelling narrative through external engagements and communications.
  • Support the execution of comms & policy response to global issues management (e.g., trading positions, air quality).
  • Stakeholder analysis and management of relationships with external stakeholders to ensure uptodate knowledge and market intelligence, in order to provide high quality, incisive, and business focused expertise to the business and the wider Corporate Relations team in Shell.
  • Lead the Trading & Supply external sensing programme and assume responsibility for the provision of deep external insights on areas of strategic interest to the Trading & Supply Leadership Team.
  • Drive integrated and credible external positioning for Trading & Supply by ensuring alignment at global and country level, working closely with the wider Corporate Relations community, other Shell businesses, country teams and other functions.

What we need from you

  • Experience in communications or advocacy roles / projects; strong written and verbal English skills, with experience writing for different audiences and channels.
  • Knowledge of commodities trading, oil markets or the downstream commercial sector preferred.
  • A clear thinker who enjoys working in a fastpaced, constantly changing business environment and can confidently prioritise and negotiate respectfully with senior leaders, providing both tactical and strategic support and guidance, and developing trusted partnerships to support business outcomes.
  • Experience managing complex reputational issues and/or crisis communications; proven ability to clearly articulate and influence on matters of policy, reputation and compliance from a business risk perspective.
