The Vision and Hearing Support Team is part of the Community Learning Disability Service.It supports people with a learning disability across Kent & Medway to access good vision and hearing care from mainstream services.
We can support with screening, familiarisation programmes, making reasonable adjustments and understanding outcomes.We believe anyone can have their vision and hearing assessed regardless of disability, and that everybody has an equal right to good care regarding their vision and hearing.
The Senior Healthcare Worker will work under the guidance of the Vision and Hearing Assistant Practitioner and Service Manager to help the team achieve its aims in delivering a high quality, equitable service across the county.
To provide support, guidance and facilitate awareness of, and access to, mainstream vision and hearing services for people with a learning disability.
To contact clients / carers to arrange and reschedule appointments both for yourself and the other clinicians in the team, and to review ongoing work e.g.
To support in service development and the creating and sourcing of resources to aid clinical interventions and understanding of various health topics, including eye and ear health.
To carry out follow up visits where necessary, following assessment and guidance from other clinicians, to deliver resources, explain process / actions / pathways etc.
To make contact, network and liaise with other services (typically opticians, ophthalmology, audiology, Ear, Nose and Throat, Kent Association for the Blind, Kent County Council Social Services and Sensory team).
