Job summary:
- The Burnham Lecturer Positioning and Navigation is a member of the management team of the Positioning and Navigation Department which plans and delivers modules on a BSc (Hons) in Military Geospatial Science, recognised by Sheffield Hallam University, and an MSc in Geospatial Intelligence, recognised by Cranfield University. This is in addition to more specialised short courses for Defence. Our output is focussed on delivering Soldiers who are ready for deployment on operations. This means we must train flexible personnel to understand fundamental principles enabling them to tackle issues as they arrive in remote operating environments with little support via reach back.

Job description:
- As the Burnham Lecturer Positioning and Navigation your main objectives are:
- provide the academic leadership for the Positioning and Navigation Department for both the MSc and BSc courses
This is to include:
- the design, delivery, and assessing of the relevant modules;
- mentoring and supervision of a number of dissertations;
- organise and run in-house training for the department as part of continuous development of the staff;- conduct personal CPD to remain at the forefront of academic and industry thinking. This will enable you to represent RSMS at appropriate events as a Subject Matter Expert.

- Ability to work well with others in a supportive and constructive manner, leading through others to deliver strategic outputs.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong organisational skills, the ability to prioritise, with the resilience to work under pressure and to meet tight deadlines.
- Excellent IT skills, knowledge and use of IT systems.
- The ability to work autonomously, showing judgement on when to progress opportunities and when to consult.
- Specific to role training:
- Within 6 months of appointment, the post holder must attend the DCTS
- Defence Train the Trainer Course (if no teaching qualification held) OR complete Defence Care of Trainees Course (if a professional teaching qualification is held).
Qualifications: - In addition to this, a teaching qualification that equates to at least level 5 on the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) i.e. Cert Ed, is required. (The Postgraduate Certificate in Education is at level 6 on the QCF and is desirable.) In exceptional circumstances, individuals may be recruited to the BL Group without such a teaching qualification. In this case there should be an agreement as part of the job offer that a teaching qualification will be undertaken and should be completed within two standard academic years. Successful achievement of the qualification is a requirement to retain employment.
