RSSL performs a wide range of analytical analyses for a variety of food, pharmaceutical and healthcare companies and supports Mondelez research and innovation.


The Central Sample Administration (CSA) department is responsible for the administration of all samples coming into the Reading Science Centre (RSC) and Wokingham sites.

Samples for the Pharmaceutical Microbiology and DNA & Protein laboratories will be delivered to the Wokingham site or transferred from the RSC.

The CSA team in Wokingham will be responsible for the receipt of samples; creating projects in the LIMS system; allocating projects to the correct departments; assigning analytical tests based upon submitted client paperwork and quotations; subcontracting analytical work; inputting of results; returning samples to clients; electronic and physical disposal of samples as required; maintaining chain of custody for controlled samples; liaising with internal and external customers.

This role will be to ensure the day to day efficient administration of samples received at the Wokingham site. To maintain a flexible approach to working practices to ensure the smooth running of the CSA department.

You will be expected to work in an organized manner within tight deadlines, to ensure that the samples throughput is delivered within expected timescales.


Key Responsibility:


  • To ensure samples are logged into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Ensure the efficient throughput of samples in CSA from receipt to laboratory.
  • Contribute to other elements of CSA's role including sample disposal, and subcontracting.
  • Liaise with customers to ensure correct information is available.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction by acting as an interface with customers and deliver excellent customer service.
  • Ensure consistency, technical precision and compliance with methods of work and look to identify improvements.
  • Ensure that company SOPs are followed when dealing with controlled drugs.
  • Develop good working relationships with Wokingham/RSC colleagues particularly in the laboratories and customer services.
  • Works as part of the CSA team to high standards of safety and quality.
  • Collaborate with RSSL's Operational Teams to ensure customer requirements are met in a timely manner.
  • Able to work under pressure and adapt to meet an ever changing customer environment.
  • Liaise with both internal and external customers where necessary to ensure that the information on LIMS is accurate and ensure customer satisfaction by representing RSSL in a professional manner at all times.
  • Work to the highest standards of safety and quality by ensuring that appropriate COSHHs, risk assessments and SOPs are read before starting work.
  • Help maintain a clean, tidy and safe working environment.
  • Understand and work to the requirements of GMP, UKAS or Home Office regulations as required.
  • Ensure training records are accurate.

Knowledge, Skills, Experience required for the role:

  • Educated to A / HNC level in a relevant scientific discipline
  • Accountable, honest, hardworking and able to work efficiently in a team
  • Flexible and adaptable to meet customer/business requirements.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and an ability to follow written instructions.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self motivated, enthusiastic and quick to learn.
  • Well organized and capable of working on multiple activities concurrently.

Work schedule:

Monday to Friday 9 am - 5 pm full-time on site in Wokingham.
