Head of Learning & Organisational Development


I am working in partnership with an NHS Trust based in East Yorkshire who are seeking to recruit a Head of Learning &Organisational Development on an interim basis.

The role is full-time and adopts a hybrid structure and therefore the post holder will berequired to travel on site for part of the week.


Role purpose


The Head of Learning and OD is a senior manager of the Trust with direct responsibility for leading and managing the delivery of a comprehensive and high quality Workforce and OD service across the organisation.

The post holder is accountable for the design,development, implementation and delivery of the service in line with the Workforce and OD strategy, plus contributing to large-scale, long-term organisational change across a wider footprint, through collaborative working.

They will provide visible, credibleand effective leadership in order to deliver a high quality workforce and OD offering.


Key Functions

  • To support the Deputy Director of Workforce and OD in leading and influencing learning and organisational development across the Trust;
  • To hold leadership and operational accountability for Learning and Development and OD;
  • To act as part of the Workforce and OD Service senior management team;
  • To support the management of change to achieve the delivery of the organisation's strategic and operational plans;
  • To support the facilitation of organisational change in line with national and Trust wide strategic objectives through coaching, mentoring, educating and facilitation and development interventions for managers, teams and staff at all levels within the organisation.
  • To deputise as appropriate for the Deputy Director of Workforce and OD.
  • Developing relationships with third party suppliers and partners; including agencies, overseas suppliers and universities.
  • Provide regular, uptodate and consistent workforce information from Board to Ward, including comparisons with local and national data where required.
  • To identify and deliver cost improvement projects within the Workforce and OD function and analyse the cost / benefit implications of such plans
  • To design and deliver a comprehensive leadership and management induction and development programme which will improve and develop the capacity and capability of leadership within the Trust.
  • To support the design, delivery, evaluation and commissioning of a range of learning and development activities and interventions to develop and build leadership capacity and capability to enable the Trust to meet its objectives

Essential Skills & Qualifications

  • NHS experience
  • Learning and development experience, particularly management development and talent management
  • Proficient IT skills
