10 months contract with Lewisham Council_


Job Summary:


  • To undertake in partnership with the local authority, schools, alternative provision providers and other relevant agencies assisting in their duties to fulfil statutory responsibilities to safeguard pupils and ensure regular attendance in school.
  • To be responsible for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of vulnerable groups.
  • To work closely with schools and alternative provision providers through a Service Level Agreement to provide support for children, young people & families through close multiagency working.
  • To investigate offences relating to poor or nonschool attendance and if necessary prepare prosecutions in relation to these offences.
  • To act as the Lead Professional for cases with additional and complex needs in regard to school attendance and social inclusion by way of early intervention, welfare referrals and preNEET support.

Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):


  • To identify support plans for families, referring as appropriate to other agencies.
  • To make use of court and noncourt disposals following the conclusion of investigations.
  • To respond to investigation referrals and act as an Investigating Officer and/or Officer in Charge, establishing offences being committed by visiting schools, confirming the facts and by taking witness statements.
  • To act upon concerns in relation to the Education (Pupil Registration) Regulations 200
  • To undertake register audits of local authority maintained schools and other education providers.
  • To advise schools to develop their attendance policies and to implement effective strategies for ensuring pupils' regular and punctual attendance at school.
  • To manage an allocation of schools that purchase a traded service where there are attendance and/or punctuality concerns.
  • To initiate iCAF assessments for appropriate cases, acting as lead professional and providing support where identified it is required.
  • To use attendance data to identify and monitor missing pupils, officially/unofficially excluded pupils, pupils accessing off site provision and looked after children to ensure they are identified promptly and referred for intervention as appropriate.
  • To maintain electronic case files on Tribal / Synergy to a high quality standard in line with confidentiality and data protection framework.
  • To carry out the duties of the post with due regard to the Council's Equal Opportunities Policy and core values.

Essential Experience Required:


  • Experience of school attendance, either from working within a school or academy environment or local authority or independent attendance service.
  • Experience of working within statutory frameworks with excellent knowledge of the Education Act 199 proven experience of safeguarding children and safeguarding legislation.
