Now Education are pleased to be working in partnership with Secondary Pupil Referral Unit in Manchester who are looking for a Senior Learning Mentor to work on a full time and long term basis.

The PRU provides education for pupils who cannot attend mainstream schools for a variety of reasons. This is a challenging yet rewarding role for some who is seeking the next step in their educational career.


The Senior Leaders at the PRU are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Learning Mentor to join the dedicated and supportive team of staff who work hard to support learners who have a range of Special Educational Needs, such as: ADHD, Autism, Complex and Challenging Behaviour, SEMH and Anxiety.


As a Learning Mentor, you will play a vital role in supporting the emotional, social, and academic development of students who may be facing challenges in their educational journey.

This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who is passionate about creating a positive and nurturing environment for young people.


Key Responsibilities:

Mentoring: Provide one-on-one mentoring to students, offering guidance and support to enhance their well-being and engagement in learning.

Emotional Support: Assist students in managing and overcoming personal challenges, fostering emotional resilience and positive mental health.

Behavioural Intervention: Implement strategies to address challenging behaviour and contribute to the development of positive behaviour plans.

Collaboration: Work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and external agencies to create a holistic support network for students.

Group Work: Facilitate group activities and workshops to address common issues and promote social skills development.

Progress Monitoring: Regularly monitor and report on the progress of mentored students, contributing to the overall assessment process.

Interventions:Working with students who are underachieving to help them reach their full potential.


Qualifications and Experience:

Relevant Qualifications
  • Desirable but not necessary:Hold a qualification in mentoring, counselling, or a related field.

Experience
  • Essential:Demonstrate experience working with young people in an educational or youth work setting.

Empathy:Possess a high level of empathy and understanding for the challenges faced by students in alternative education settings.

Communication Skills:Strong communication and active listening skills to effectively engage with students and build trusting relationships.

Team Player:Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and external partners to provide comprehensive support.
