You will be joining a high performing team, working in a busy environment and you will need to be comfortable working under pressure and to tight deadlines.

You will work with the Payroll Officer to provide a professional, efficient, and responsive payroll service, with a strong customer service focus, in line with government legislation and LSTM policies and procedures.

In this role, you will be dealing with both UK and international payrolls for approx. 650 staff and providing advice and support on complex queries.

Some of our clinical staff also work within the NHS, so if you have experience of either Higher Education or NHS payrolls, this is a real advantage.


As the senior contact in the team, you will also be responsible for monthly reporting on payroll performance, KPIs and SLAs to Head of People Services and work closely with the Finance Department on reconciliation of payroll accounts, to support accurate forecasting.

In line with the reporting responsibilities, we need you to have excellent excel skills and be comfortable with functions such as v-look ups and pivot tables.


Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide technical/complex payroll related advice, guidance and support to all staff and managers demonstrating an excellent knowledge of payroll and pension legislation, processes and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with HMRC, Pension and other external regulatory requirements, including reconciling statutory deductions and payments to HMRC employer portal.
  • Complete month end and year end reconciliations and reporting requirements.
  • Perform agreed checks, controls, and audits to ensure monthly payrolls are accurate.
  • Provide payroll information to support completion of internal and external audits and annual accounts as needed.
  • Responsibility for ensuring the processing of three UK monthly payrolls are done correctly and on time, including interpreting, validating and the inputting of all documentation, expenses, timesheets, and overtime payments on iTrent in line with SLA's.
  • Ensure overseas payrolls are accurate and signed off to meet processing timescales.
  • Complete monthly calculations and deduction of French Social Security and make payments to URSSAF/update TFE.
  • Process Malawi Tax and update Malawi Pay Scales.
  • Process US Payroll bimonthly using TriNet
  • Provide payroll information to Global Payroll providers as and when required.
