Working pattern: We support full-time, part time, compressed, and flexible hours.

We're committed to offering remote working, however, our ability to do this is dependent on role requirements and business need.

About Us
MI5 safeguards the UK against threats such as terrorism, espionage, cyber and sabotage.

We investigate suspect individuals and organisations in the UK to obtain, collate, analyse and assess secret intelligence relating to these threats.

Alongside our British Intelligence partners MI6 and GCHQ, we provide the UK government with the information they need to protect national security.

At MI5 you'll enjoy varied and rewarding work in a supportive and encouraging environment that puts the emphasis on teamwork.

The Role
Cyber security matters. It affects everyone as it extends beyond the digital world and into the physical one. Our processes, approaches and job roles shift with changes in technology, politics or society.

And right now we're looking for Cyber Risk Advisers who are willing to contribute to these changes and want to play an active role in shaping the future of cyber security within our organisation.

The team you'll join is responsible for ensuring the technology we use is secured against a range of cyber threats, and you'll work with Security Architect specialists to provide advice to stakeholders on the most appropriate technology and processes to secure our information, capabilities and people.

When decisions need to be made on architecture, resources, functionality and timescales, you'll provide advice to help decision makers protect our organisation from cyber risk.

Most of your work will involve supporting the delivery of engineering and technology, but there will be periodic bespoke projects and tasks that relate directly to cyber security and awareness.

You'll operate alongside a wide range of business areas and teams, but you'll also have the opportunity to work with stakeholders in government and industry as you help secure our information and technology assets.

Once established in your post there'll be potential to move outside cyber security and into other roles across the organisation, while section growth will offer openings to take on further responsibilities such as management and incumbency in other areas.

About You

To be a success in this role you'll have the ability to understand the latest technologies and the impact they have on our organisation - with this in mind, you'll treat every day as a learning opportunity, and be willing to develop your technological knowledge and expertise.

Capable of communicating cyber security related guidance to a wide range of stakeholders with confidence and credibility, you'll also possess the ability to present information effectively and distil a complex concept into a clear, concise message.

As our work involves drilling into detail gathered from multiple sources and identifying gaps or inconsistencies, you'll have an analytical mind while maintaining a strong business perspective.

Your outcomes will inform decision-making across our organisation, so understanding people and context will be vital, as will the ability to adapt your approach to various situations as you help negotiate pragmatic solutions which fit the needs of multiple stakeholders.

Training and Development
We're proud of our inclusive and supportive working environment, which is designed to encourage open minds and attitudes. And as an organisation that values and nurtures talent, we're committed to helping you fulfil your potential.

We offer excellent training and development opportunities, and these range from online courses and training events to residential courses focused on specific professional qualifications or certifications.

Self-study training days are encouraged, and ideally you'll aspire to gain one or more professional certifications such as CRISC, CISSP, CISM and CCSP.

You'll receive a starting salary of £57,495 and after successful assessment within the first 6 months you can expect to receive £61,954 and other benefits to include:

  • 25 Days Annual Leave automatically rising to 30 days after 5 years' service, and an additional 10.5 days public and privilege holidays
  • Opportunities to be recognised through our employee performance scheme
  • Personal Learning Budget
  • Interestfree season ticket loan
  • Excellent pension scheme
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Facilities such as a gym, restaurant and onsite coffee bar
  • Paid parental and adoption leave.
