An exciting opportunity has come up to work within the Female Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) based within St Ann's Hospital as a Mental Health Support Worker.


We are currently looking for a confident, enthusiastic and caring worker who wishes to work in a fast paced and challenging environment.

You will be part of a wonderful multi-disciplinary team that are friendly, supportive and promote a calm and therapeutic approach in a low stimulus environment, enabling patients to move forward with their recovery.


Haven Female PICUis a 5 bedded female PICU that provide a high level of effective and compassionate care to women who are experiencing the most acute phase of a serious mental disorder.


Within Haven Female, we provide intensive and specialist care for females who present with increased risks that require them to be nursed in a PICU environment for assessment and treatment.


The team aim to:


  • Treat patients who are detained under the Mental Health Act using positive engagement, talking therapies (CBT/DBT) and medicines
  • Ensuring patient and their family/carers are at the centre of their recovery journey
  • Engage creatively with patients to coproduce their individual care plans
  • Prioritise both mental and physical health wellness
  • Engage patients in doing a variety of activities both on the ward and off the ward
  • Help patients get active, eat well and take care of their own wellbeing
  • Promote freedom of choice and least restrictive practice, in a safe and therapeutic environment


Although experience working within healthcare, specifically mental health, is desirable, we would welcome individuals who do not have this experience.

As a team, we can support you to develop yourself and your abilities in support of you becoming a skilled, competent and confident worker within PICU.

Within this role, there is the expectation of you being able to work shifts over the 7 day week, including night shifts.
