A full time post as Oncoplastic Fellow in Breast Surgery is available immediately at the Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals Trust, for 12 months, starting from August 2024


The Breast Unit in Oxford sees approximately 8,000 referrals per year with over 600 newly diagnosed patients with breast cancer.

They are treated at the Cancer Centre at the Churchill Hospital, (which is also home to the NHS Breast Screening Programme), and at the Horton Hospital in Banbury.

We have an enthusiastic multidisciplinary team with one stop clinics supported by 6 breast radiologists and 3 breast pathologists, medical and clinical oncologists, cancer genetics, plastic surgery and lymphoedema services.

The fellow will be working under the supervision of 7 consultants (3 are part-time).

The unit provides a full range of Oncoplastic breast surgery service in collaboration with the plastic surgery team, who provide a free-flap reconstruction service.


The Trust comprises four hospitals - the John Radcliffe Hospital, Churchill Hospital and Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Headington and the Horton General Hospital in Banbury.

Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals NHS Trust is a teaching hospital Trust, and the post-holder will be required to participate in programmes for teaching clinical students, training junior doctors and in clinical examinations.

The post-holder's contribution to teaching, training, and research will be included in the regular job plan review.

Clinical Governance


The post-holder will participate in clinical governance activities, including clinical audit, clinical effectiveness, risk management, quality improvement activities as required by the Trust, Health Authorities, and external accrediting bodies.

Personal and Professional Development


The post-holder will be required to keep himself/herself fully up-to-date with their relevant area of practice and to be able to demonstrate this to the satisfaction of the Trust.

Professional or Study Leave will be granted at the discretion of the Trust, in line with the prevailing Terms and Conditions of Service, to support appropriate personal development needs.

The Trust currently makes a financial contribution in support of these activities up to an agreed limit.

Management


The post-holder will be required to work within the Trust's management policies and procedures, both statutory and internal, accepting that the resources available to the Trust are finite and that all changes in clinical practice or workload, or developments requiring additional resources must have prior agreement with the Trust.

He/she will undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of his/her patients, and the running of his/her clinical work under the direction of the Clinical Director.

Administrative Responsibilities

The post-holder will undertake the administrative duties associated with the clinical duties outlined above.

So far as is consistent with the proper discharge of the above duties the post-holder undertakes to deputize from time to time for absent colleagues.

The post holder undertakes, exceptionally, to perform additional duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.


The post holder undertakes, exceptionally, to be available for irregular commitments outside normally rostered duties as are essential for the continuity of patient care.
