Communications Assistant
Cardiff University is seeking to recruit an outstanding individual to join our Communications and Marketing Department.

Reporting to the Senior Internal Communications Officer, the Communications Assistant will provide comprehensive professional administrative support to the Communications team.

The role will primarily focus on a discrete change programme of work - the Education and Student Experience portfolio which seeks to develop and enhance the quality of learning, teaching and student experience.


  • The role is full time, fixedterm to July 2024.

Salary:
£26,444 - £29,605 per annum (Grade 4)

Key Duties

  • Establish strong working relationships and attend regular meetings with the Learning and Teaching Academy, and Education and Student Experience Portfolio
  • Publish high volumes of online content to intranet, blogs and Viva Engage with close attention to detail
  • Research images and film content to complement written communications
  • Assist in the planning, organisation and delivery of events
  • Provide detailed advice and guidance on internal communications processes and procedures to internal customers, using judgement and creativity to suggest the most appropriate course of action where appropriate
  • Act as first point of contact for internal communications enquiries, referring to relevant members of team as appropriate
  • Collaborate with others in order to make recommendations for developments of established processes and procedures
  • Undertake a variety of administrative duties, including report writing and financial orders, to support the team and department
  • Gather and analyse data to inform decisions, establishing basic trends and patterns in data and creating reports as appropriate

Essential Criteria

Qualifications and Education

  • NVQ 3/A-Levels or equivalent
    Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Substantial experience of working in an administrative role, including web editing
  • 3. Knowledge of the importance of internal communications and staff engagement
  • 4. Ability to set up standard office systems and procedures and make improvements as appropriate
    Customer Service, Communication and Team Working
  • Ability to communicate specialist and complex information effectively and professionally to a range of customers with varying levels of understanding
  • 6. Proven ability to advise and influence key stakeholders
  • 7. Evidence of ability to explore customers' needs and adapt the service accordingly to ensure a quality service is delivered
    Planning, Analysis and Problem solving
  • Evidence of ability to solve problems using initiative and creativity; identify and propose practical solutions and to resolve problems where there are a range of potential options available
  • 9. Evidence of ability to analyse processes and procedures, and advise on improvements
  • 10. Evidence of ability to work unsupervised to deadlines, planning and setting priorities for own work
    Desirable Criteria
  • Degree or an equivalent communications qualification or equivalent work-related experience
  • 2. Experience of working in a Higher Education environment
  • 3. Fluency in Welsh, written and oral
