The Assistant Technical Officer post offers an exciting opportunity to work in a hospital laboratory.

Our laboratory is in a modern, purpose built City hospital that first opened in 2010.

Our UKAS accredited department is staffed by a friendly, highly motivated and professional BMS's and ATO support workers, dealing with approximately one million samples per year.

The laboratory is a modern and spacious facility and is undergoing an expansion of the services.


You will be responsible for receipt of histology and diagnostic cytology specimens and involved in the preparation of samples under the guidance of biomedical scientists.

You will assist in the development of trainee staff within a progressive department where active participation in developing our service is encouraged.


You will also need to be enthusiastic and highly motivated, have a good attention to detail and be able to work well in a busy team environment, computer literate and familiar with working to UKAS standards.


Laboratory hours:

Core hours 8.30am-5pm, including participation in early shift 7.30am-4pm, with potential for adjustments to include a late shift (9.30am-6pm) and/or Saturday working should the service require.

Main responsibilities:


  • To carry out routine laboratory tasks and assist in all sections in the Cellular Pathology Department on a rotational basis according to departmental protocols.
  • To work closely with senior staff to deliver a quality driven, cost effective and customer focussed service
