The vacancy


The Head of IT role is a key role within Corporate Services, supporting colleagues in all parts of the organisation.


The postholder is responsible for the development and implementation of a forward-looking IT strategy, ensuring that IT services meet the needs of staff, both now and in the future.

They are also responsible for developing and implementing key corporate policies and ensuring a customer-focused implementation approach, supported by third party suppliers.


Responsibilities

  • To continually develop and implement the IT Strategy for the organisation, ensuring it is fit for purpose in a rapidly changing external environment.
  • To fully understand the organisation's cyber security defences and to monitor cyber security reports provided by third party suppliers. To be an integral part of the response team should the organisation suffer a successful cyberattack.
  • To assess IT related risks across the organisation, capture these on the risk register along with mitigating actions, and escalate risks to the Director of Finance and IT when necessary.
  • To manage contracts with thirdparty suppliers, fully understanding the service provided and ensuring that these achieve value for money and that any supplier performance issues are successfully identified and addressed or mitigated.
  • To work closely with the Strategic Advisor for IT and thirdparty suppliers to ensure the organisation's IT infrastructure is fit for purpose.
  • To understand external trends or shifts in technology and how these trends could be applied to the business needs and IT Strategy. To make recommendations for change as appropriate.
  • Work closely with the Digital and Communication teams supporting the development and implementation of an ambitious and integrated Digital Strategy for the organisation.
  • To annually review and update the suite of IT Policies.
  • To ensure the organisation maintains Cyber Essentials Plus certification.
  • To be the budget holder for IT, leading on budget setting and quarterly forecasting.
  • To lead on all IT related projects for the organisation, ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget.
  • To work closely with senior colleagues across the organisation to ensure you have a clear understanding of the business strategy and priorities.
  • To be the business continuity lead for IT, ensuring there is a clear policy in place and that any businesscritical incidents are managed professionally, minimising downtime.
  • To write reports for Audit and Risk Committee and Finance and Operations Committee on a quarterly and ad hoc basis.
  • To maintain skills and knowledge by attending relevant conferences and webinars.
