The role


We are looking to appoint a part-time, (30 hours) 3D Technical Specialist to support across our Art and Design courses here at York St John.


You will join the Specialist Technical team, providing dedicated technical support to students studying on the Art and Design suite of programmes.

This role will predominantly support 3D making in Fine Art, but may also support Animation, Games Design, Graphic Design, Illustration, Interior Design, Photography and Product Design.


The post holder will oversee the day-to-day running of the 3D making facilities and facilitate effective and professional use of studio spaces.

The role will be expected to undertake first-line maintenance of equipment and machinery and ensure health and safe processes are implemented and adhered to.


Working closely with academic colleagues, the post holder will support the design and delivery of practical workshop sessions, oversee key aspects of supported open learning and engage with students to facilitate their learning of technical skills.

You will offer open support, deliver technical demonstrations, workshops and one to one guidance for students using your knowledge and experience of working in a making environment.


Required skills and experience
We are looking for a proactive individual with excellent interpersonal skills, has an ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively and has the following key skills:

  • Extensive making experience (sculpture)
  • Knowledge of workshop health and safety regulations and procedures
  • Extensive knowledge of common workshop/studio tools and machinery and how to operate them.
  • Ability to inform and explain technical processes

The team


The postholder will be part of the university's Specialist Technical Team who are proud signatories of the Technician Commitment, working towards ensuring visibility, recognition, career development and sustainability of technical skills.


Working pattern
We are looking to cover 30 hours across 5 days of the week (Mon - Fri). Those seeking a part time opportunity are welcomed to apply.
