Bermuda Monetary Authority (Authority or BMA) is seeking the services of a skilled and capable individual to work as an Insurance Regulatory Expert in our Supervision (Insurance) Department.

Reporting to the Director, the Insurance Regulatory Expert will provide coordination and advice on a wide range of the Authority's Insurance Department's regulatory and international representation matters supporting the Leadership Team.

The post-holder will develop and manage relationships with other international insurance regulators, represent the Insurance Department in international for a, and support the BMA's engagement with IAIS.

The post-holder will be capable of anticipating and analysing international developments and advising on regulatory and other developments and will play a strategic and key role in international assessments from EU and US regulators.

The role will involve a high degree of collaborative working with colleagues across the Insurance Department and across the Authority.


This is a key role for the Authority and the post-holder will be responsible for but not limited to:

  • Proposing and developing the Insurance Strategy for liaising with International Insurance Regulators by collaborating with relevant internal stakeholders. Acting as a lead in the implementation of the strategy where appropriate. Providing insight and advice on strategic matters as they relate to international, and regulatory developments affecting the insurance sector and working on political and regulatory responses in cooperation with other relevant stakeholders
  • Providing advice, guidance and information to the Insurance Department. Contributing or leading as appropriate to thought leadership insight on international insurance regulatory issues
  • Representing the Insurance Department (amongst other senior managers) at the International Affairs Committee. Identifying topics for discussions, writing papers and providing strategic recommendations as appropriate on insurance international political and regulatory matters of relevance for the BMA
  • Supporting and coordinating the crossdepartmental work on the review of Solvency II. Providing advice to Policy Development regarding the BMA's strategic engagement with EU policymakers and others stakeholders with the view to supporting BMA's equivalence
  • Counselling on the BMA's insurance engagement with the UK. Monitoring and analysing political and regulatory developments occurring in the UK in relation to Solvency II Equivalence with the EU and the potential repercussions for Bermuda. Providing advice to Policy Development in its support of the Bermuda government's engagement with the UK and EU
  • Advising and supporting EIOPA monitoring assessment on Bermuda equivalence with Solvency II. Managing the relationships and communications with EIOPA, and leading the followup on the EIOPA monitoring assessment. Leading/contributing to the preparation and development of documents and briefings. Engaging with internal stakeholders as appropriate. Providing support as directed with international and regulatory matters pertaining to companies
  • Supporting, advising and coordinating BMA's engagement at IAIS. Providing policy and analytical support as directed for the work required for ExCo and Policy Development Committees engagement. Managing internal stakeholders on matters pertaining to the IAIS. Representing the BMA at the IAIS working groups and other meetings/events as appropriate.
  • Working closely with colleagues across the BMA to assess the impact of international insurance developments. Assisting with cascading IAIS matters into regulations and standards. Collaborating with colleagues to develop the BMA's internal and external positions visàvis emerging regulatory issues
  • Acting as a contact point for NAIC matters and supporting NAIC engagement. Taking responsibility for organising bilaterals, meetings and overall policy regulatory analysis in relation to the Bermuda qualified and reciprocal jurisdiction status. Dealing and leading with specific issues as they arise. Attending and reporting on NAIC events and representing the BMA as appropriate
  • Advising and supporting, as appropriate, Insurance Department's international engagement and public affairs. Liaising, developing and maintaining relationships with international regulators. Working closely with the Director of Insurance on engagement with US jurisdictions and providing analytical support as required
  • Monitoring, analysing, and advising on relevant insurance international policy developments. Providing regular updates on insurance international matters, including regulatory developments across jurisdictions that might be relevant for Bermuda
  • Supporting engagement with ABIR, BILTR and other insurance industry associations on international matters. Providing expertise, insight and advice on intern
