An opportunity has arisen for a motivated individual to join the Maternity team at Chesterfield Royal Hospital as a Maternity Assistant.

This role provides support to Midwives ensuring that women receive high standards of maternity care throughout our service.

The role is a rotational post within the maternity unit at Chesterfield Royal Hospital.


Chesterfield Royal Hospital is a baby friendly accredited maternity unit, applicants must be committed to supporting mothers with infant feeding providing education to both breast and formula feeding mothers.


Applicants must also demonstrate excellent communication skills and the ability to work under their own initiative as part of the multi-professional team.


The post holder will be required to work a shift pattern that covers the twenty four hour period including weekends and Bank holidays.


To support and assist hospital based midwives in the provision of high quality, evidence-based care to women and their families, during the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal periods.

Under the supervision of the midwife, the post-holder will be competent to provide direct care to women and their babies, support women with their chosen method of infant feeding and teach specific parenting skills.


This job description acts as a guideline to the responsibilities of the post holder and will be reviewed in consultation with the post holder and amended to meet changing professional and service needs.
