Greater Manchester Social Work Academy

Update your skills, knowledge and experience as a social worker returning to practice.
Refresher days: 15th, 16th, 17th and 18th April and 22th May 2024.

Placement:
a 10-day placement between the dates of 22nd April and 22nd May 2024.


The programme is offered free to qualified social workers living or working within Greater Manchester who intend to work for a Greater Manchester local authority after completing their studies.

Social workers from outside Greater Manchester can self
- fund for £1500.


Who is it for?

Course overview
5 days refresher training

  • You will receive updates on contemporary social work practice, particularly on legislation and safeguarding practices.
  • Support will be provided to help you find current research and evidence to inform your practice.
  • Meet employers who support the course through providing interview guidance and undertake mock interviews with you directly.
10 days supervised practice placement

Return to a practice setting to re-familiarise yourself with hands-on practice within a local authority or other statutory team. You will be offered supervision to guide you in this process. Placements and practice supervisors will be arranged by GMSWA.

Private study

15 days private study will be evidenced in addition to the above to meet SWE requirements. This can be completed independently, or guidance can be given.
