Job Description:


Wood Mackenzie has an exciting opportunity for a Database Administrator to join a dynamic global business to help drive change and innovation.


We are looking for a skilled Database Administrator or Database Reliability Engineer to help us in the support and constant improvement of our suite of database technologies, on premises and in the cloud.


Role Purpose


The principal responsibilities of this role are to provide database availability and all aspects of administration within the Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team, and to collaborate with the software engineering teams to optimize database performance on multiple data platforms in a global enterprise environment.


This encompasses:

  • Working in partnership with the business and the technology teams to ensure database availability, focusing on service availability and proactive issue detection
  • Adhering to database administration best practices, internal policies, and operational procedures to perform administrative and support responsibilities
  • Resolving availability issues as they arise, to include participating in an oncall support rotation
  • Mentoring DBA team members as they resolve issues and learn new technologies
  • Creating and reviewing team procedures and best practice documentation

Responsibilities:


  • Perform all aspects of database support: deployment, capacity planning, security, maintenance, currency, monitoring, alerting, incident resolution, recovery, and performance tuning
  • Work in an Agile environment supporting global engineering teams in a collaborative ownership culture
  • Deliver high quality results within allocated timeframes
  • Participate in oncall support rotation
  • Collaborate with engineering and development teams to ensure database architecture aligns with organizational standards and best practices
  • Review and contribute to procedure documentation
  • Lead successful team projects to completion

Qualifications:


Requirements:


  • 25 years of experience in Database Architecture, Database Engineering, and Database Administration roles
  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in IT/IS/CS or equivalent work experience
  • Proficiency with one or more of these database platforms.
  • Microsoft SQL server
  • PostgreSQL server
  • Experience with cloud PostgreSQL and SQL platforms (Azure and AWS )
  • Experience in query review and optimization
  • Ability to participate in oncall support rotation
  • Ability to work independently as part of a crossfunctional, multilocational team
  • Experience with Microsoft SSIS troubleshooting.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code
Additional Information


Additional Preferred Skills:


  • Knowledge of Microsoft SSAS
  • Proficiency with Oracle and Oracle Grid infrastructure
  • Proficiency in Linux administration (RHEL/Ubuntu).
  • Proficiency in configuration management tools (Ansible/Salt Stack).
  • Experience with programming / scripting languages such as Bash, Python, and PowerShell.
  • AWS and/or Azure certifications
