We are looking for an experienced Medical Secretary to work as part of our friendly and versatile Neurosurgery secretarial team.

You will be based at the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton.


You must be able to priorities your workload, be good at time management and have the ability to meet deadlines.

You must be adaptable and have the ability to embrace change.

Knowledge of working in a hospital environment or similar environment is desirable but not essential.

An autonomous responsibility to manage a full secretarial service to the Department. Time management and prioritising workloads are essential requirements.
Take initial receipt of all incoming correspondence, telephone written and verbal enquiries as appropriate.
Liaise with the medical team ensuring communication with patients and /or their GP's regarding future management.
Using tact, diplomacy, reassurance and discretion, respond to telephone enquiries from distressed patients and their relatives. Occasionally dealing with verbal abuse.
Communicate with other Consultants, GP surgeries, Primary Care Trusts, other hospitals, patients and their carers', managers,
wards, admissions, outpatients and other departments as required.
Provide a complete secretarial service transcribing author dictation utilising a digital dictation voice recognition system. Undertake
Comply explicitly with the Trust's Complaints Procedure. Without delay forward to appropriate parties all formal complaints and responses.
Personally deal with as many enquiries as possible.
Act as a point of contact for the Department.
Assist with locating case notes as required by the Department.
Assist other members of the team in times of absence.
Undertake any other reasonable duties as required.
