About the Role

Base Location:
Perth or Glasgow, however other SSE office locations will be considered.


Salary:
£32,600 - £48,800 + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The role has become available through further investment in SSE's Group, Risk and Audit function as it develops to support the organisation's strategy implementation.

Following a strong outcome from a recent external quality assessment, our function is continuing to progress on a number of fronts including implementing elements of agile auditing methodology, further evolving our talent model and people strategy, embedding an approach to coverage of SSE's international operations, and technology enablement primarily via data analytics, insight and visualisation, and implementation of a new audit management system.

As Group Auditor you'll be responsible for the effective and timely execution of risk and control based audits from SSE's internal audit programme, providing constructive appraisal, insight and challenge, and acting as a catalyst for positive change.

You'll encourage good conduct and standards, contributing directly to SSE achieving its objectives through the promotion of risk awareness and effective control.

You'll work closely with the business to understand the key risks to the organisation, put effective control mechanisms in place and contribute to relevant projects and initiatives.


The key responsibilities of the role are:

  • Effectively scope and plan risk-based audits, determining key risks and controls, and engaging with stakeholders to establish a clear understanding of Group Audit's role and program of work.
  • Responsibility for fieldwork and testing through information gathering, analysing and evaluating information, and documenting evidence.
  • Concluding the effectiveness of the control environment, advising management where enhanced controls are required, agreeing the relevant issues, and preparing and issuing reports along with agreed actions.
  • Ensure audit actions are recorded and then followed up to ensure implementation as agreed, influencing stakeholders at all levels to meet commitments in line with the agreed delivery schedule.
  • Providing support with improvement initiatives, project work, and providing general advice and guidance on effective risk management, best practice, and company standards.

What do I need?
To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

  • Part or fully qualified accountant/internal auditor status with relevant experience or be qualified from having significant relevant experience.
  • A robust understanding of riskbased auditing processes and risk management frameworks.
  • Analysis and interrogation capabilities along with good knowledge of core business systems and general business governance procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills including a high standard of formal report writing and the ability to work well within a team environment
  • Strong negotiation skills and the ability to influence the implementation of effective internal control and business improvements.
