The post holder will need to be flexible to work at any of our clinical hubs which are based at: Redcar, Middlesbrough, Brotton and Guisborough.


ELM Alliance Ltd was formed by the GP Practices in 2017 and has approximately 250 people working for us and with us.

We deliver NHS services to the patients of Redcar, Cleveland and Middlesbrough and are wholly owned by the local GP Practices.

Our services include primary care general practice, services to care homes and community services such as dermatology. The landscape is changing; both the way we interact with patients and the local structures. It is an exciting and dynamic time to work with General Practice, other NHS providers and the voluntary sectors.

ELM Alliance GP Extended Access represents a major development towards integrated primary care with 24/7 access.

The aim of the Services is to provide a high quality, integrated and innovative primary care service, outside current core hours of care and led by General Practices.


As a Receptionist you will work in close partnership with the other key members of the Extended Access Service, ELM Alliance Management Team and external organisations to deliver the Extended Access service in a safe and timely manner.

Our clinical hubs are at Middlesbrough, Redcar, Brotton and Guisborough.


Staff with contracted hours select their shifts from Rota Master once the rota has been released, where those shifts are no longer available, they work with the Rota Manager to secure their contracted hours.

We require staff to be able to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service.


Job Summary:


The purpose of the role is to:

  • Offer general assistance to the Extended Access team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone
  • Receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way
  • Undertake a variety of administrative duties to assist in the smooth running of the Extended Access Service including the provision of clerical support to clinical staff and other members of the Extended Access team
  • Facilitate effective communication between patients, members of the primary health care team, secondary care and other associated healthcare agencies

Duties and Responsibilities:


As a Receptionist you will be responsible for:

  • Assisting with the setting up /closing up of the service including the setting up clinical rooms and ensuring that all clinical equipment trays have sufficient stocked for the full shift.
  • Ensure that the cleaning and checking of equipment and consultation room surfaces are cleaned each shift.
  • Booking appointments and marking patients upon arrival.
  • Taking messages and passing on information
  • Scanning
  • Answering phones
  • Initiating contact with and responding to requests from patients, other team members and associated healthcare agencies and providers
  • Providing assistance as required with filing, photocopying and scanning
  • Ordering, reordering and monitoring of stationery and other supplies
  • Provision of refreshments for staff and visitors as required; and keeping the kitchen area clean and tidy
  • Keeping the reception area, noticeboards and leaflet dispensers tidy and free from obstructions and clutter
  • On a very occasional basis driving the Corporate Home visiting vehicles.

  • In the performance of the duties outlined in this Job Description, the postholder may have access to confidential information relating to patients and their carers, Extended Access staff and other healthcare workers. They may also have access to information relating to the ELM Alliance Ltd as a business organisation. All such information from any source is to be regarded as strictly confidential
  • Information relating to patients, carers, colleagues, other healthcare workers or the business of the Extended Access Service may only be divulged to authorised persons in accordance
- with the Extended Access Service policies and procedures relating to confidentiality and the protection of personal and sensitive data


Health & Safety:

The post-holder will assist in promoting and maintaining their own and others health, safety and security as defined in ELM Health & Safety Policy, ELM Health & Safety Manual, and ELM Infection Control policy and published procedures


This will include:

  • Using personal security systems within the workplace according to Extended Access Service guidelines
  • Identifying the risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks
  • Making effective use of training to updat
