Underwriting Assistant, Special Risks


We are looking to employ an Underwriting Assistant to be based in London and to work with us on a Full-Time basis.

The Role

  • Accurate processing of data on the inhouse S2000 underwriting system
  • Scan, photocopy and file of documents as required
  • Transfer of underwriting information from slips to daily risk record and MRSL systems
  • Extract biweekly reports of claims and premium data for the team
  • Monitor reports produced by credit control team and chase brokers for outstanding premiums
  • Produce ad hoc reports to aid account analysis and/or management reports as required
  • Keep appropriate records of all conversations with customers and/or insurers, or other relevant business contacts, in accordance with the procedures manual
  • Ensure that company procedures and systems are followed and maintained
  • Attend and take minutes for Special Risks meetings
  • Carry out underwriting research for contingency risks including; use of Metswift, Risk Mapper and other relevant tools
  • Peer review data entry records of another class of business
  • Help drive forward good conduct for the business to deliver the best outcomes for customers / policyholders
  • Understand all appropriate lines of escalation and the responsibilities of the PCRSG, UCSC, ExCo and Board for Conduct Risk
  • You are required to comply with the PRA and FCA conduct rules
What we are looking for


Provision of an accurate and quality administrative service to the Special Risks Team demonstrating care for customers and respect for the regulatory obligations of the firm.

Key Skills & Experience

  • Basic (Level 1) knowledge and understanding of:
  • Underlying Principles on Insurance
  • Legal Principles
  • Financial Services Authority rules and regulations
  • Lloyd's regulations
  • Special Risks/Contingency
  • Demonstrate clear understanding of all company specific procedures that relate to own role
  • Demonstrate growing understanding of the roles of colleagues and their relationships to the structure and business plans of the firm
  • Willingness to continue to develop knowledge of clients, policies, underwriting and related issues through formal and informal learning, both internally and externally to the firm
  • Be aware of the potential risks facing the business within own job role and the controls that are in place to mitigate them; and report all significant changes in these risks, or the effectiveness of controls, to your line manager in a timely manner
