Due to continued expansion, we require a
Buyer to join our team in Stourbridge.


Buyer - Job Roles & Responsibilities**:

To purchase direct materials to ensure that the company's production and sales needs are met taking into account price, quality and delivery and to ensure continuity of supply.


Key Tasks:


  • Purchasing of raw materials in line with specified cost, quality, and delivery targets.
  • The continuity of supply aspect is managed by the Works Manager and Production Controller.
  • Negotiate and maintain cost effective prices with current supply base and investigate new potential suppliers and cost reduction opportunities.
  • Obtain data and negotiate utility contracts relevant to the Groups requirements.
  • Obtain data and negotiate contracts for Group Insurance requirements.
  • Obtain data and negotiate contracts for Group fleet requirements and control maintenance needs.
  • Work in conjunction with the Managing Director and Group CEO to place purchase orders.
  • Operating the company computer system, Integrated Manufacturing System, Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and databases.
  • Maintenance of supplier appraisal system.
  • Liaising with suppliers to ensure they meet the required quality and delivery standards and daily problem solving. This is done in conjunction with the rest of the purchasing and material control team.
  • Support other relevant departments and communicate any supply problems which may impact on business operations.
  • Build and maintain good supplier relationships and good communication channels.
  • Contact suppliers to resolve price, quality, delivery or invoice issues and work in conjunction with accounts.
  • Arranging transport for bought in goods if required.
  • Work on new business opportunities in conjunction with engineering and assist in collating estimated costs.
  • Send RFQs to suppliers,
  • Comply with health and safety and environmental policies, company policies generally and legal requirements.
  • Ensure all these factors are considered during supplier selection.
  • Contributing to internal and external audits.
  • Sourcing new suppliers and ensuring they are suitable to the organization.
  • Excellent communication skills and team player.
  • Negotiation, skills and maintaining good supplier relations.


  • IT skills

  • MRP, Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, and databases. Training will be given for inhouse IT platform.
  • Able to manage time effectively and be able to cope calmly with daytoday issues. This is a handson role due to the nature and size of the business.
  • Able to work well under pressure and handle emergency and stressful situations that derive from our big company customer base.
  • Driving licence preferred but not essential.
  • Fast paced manufacturing background ideal but not essential.
  • Ability to read technical drawings and understand manufacturing processes ideal but not essential.
