The Role & Team
We have an exciting opportunity to join our Homelessness Prevention Team as a Housing Advice Officer.

Conducting initial assessments for all those approaching the Service for housing and homelessness advice, you will determine whether they may be owed a Prevention or Relief Duty by the Authority under Part 7 of the Housing Act 1996 as amended and give comprehensive advice and information about their housing rights and the housing options available to them.


Your Responsibilities will include but may not be limited to:

  • Carry out an initial assessment of each customer's housing and support needs, and make appropriate inquiries as required
  • Identify following initial assessment whether the customer may be eligible, homeless, or threatened with homelessness within 56 days, and in priority need using relevant statutory guidance and case law, and the council's policies and procedures.
  • Establish and obtain as much information and documentation as possible to verify the information that has been gathered.
  • Refer customers on to other members of the Team as appropriate when the initial assessment and all relevant inquires are complete.
  • Carry out intervention activities as and when required for those not statutorily homeless but in need of housing advice and support to prevent a notice being served.

This role is a blended working role_ (_the duties of the role may require a blend of home & office working in line with needs of the service)_
