2x Female Ward:

We have 2 female acute wards currently at the Maudsley hospital, Ruskin Ward and Jim Birley unit.

Both are wards for women, aged 18-65, who have severe mental illness. We provide care for women who live in the London Borough of Southwark.

We offer psychiatric assessment, care and treatment in hospital, which reduces the risk to self and others

1x Female PICU:

Eileen Skellern 1 (ES1) is a psychiatric intensive care ward (PICU) at the Maudsley Hospital. We offer care for women, aged 16-65, who live in the London Borough of Southwark.

Our team includes health and social care staff from a range of professions.

We provide secure psychiatric and intensive hospital care for people who have severe and ongoing mental illnesses whose behaviour makes them unsafe, either to themselves or others, and who cannot be treated in an open ward.

We provide assessment, treatment and intensive nursing care.

2 x Male acute wards:

We currently have 2 male acute wards within the Maudsley. John Dickson and Lewis Unit

Both wards provide care and treatment for men, aged 16-65, with severe mental illnesses who need 24 hour hospital care for residents of the London Borough of Southwark.

Our aim is to ensure that people with acute mental illness are safe and receive the assessment and treatment they need in the least restrictive environment.

Acute illnesses start quickly and have distressing symptoms.
