The Fleet Operations Manager has overall responsibility for maintenance of the fleet of circa 260 assets which is primarily HGV, rigid truck with fridge unit and/or tail lift.

They are also responsible for oversight of several other key areas within this business,I.E.

managing the Fleet Team, reporting to Director/Owner level, and being held accountable for the overall performance of this service offering.


  • Significant experience of the commercial vehicle maintenance sector, specifically around HGVs, Tail Lifts & Refrigerated equipment
  • Experience of managing a small team and working effectively in a fast paced environment whilst reporting to Director/Owner level
  • Experience of contract negotiation and effective dispute resolution
  • Knowledge of the current legislation surrounding maintenance & operation of HGVs & associated equipment
  • Experience managing complex relationships between manufacturers, service providers and customers

Role:

  • Managerial experience, able to run a small team effectively
  • Ability to read and understand contractual obligations
  • Develop and maintain relationships with both customers & suppliers
  • Control query/issue resolution in a professional and amicable manner
  • Set up new service schedules
  • Manage warranty claim process with manufacturers, body builders & suppliers
  • Ensure goodwill is claimed from manufacturers, body builders & suppliers where possible
  • Interrogate and authorise any costs that fall outside of fixed works
  • Negotiate best VFM
  • Must be able to work efficiently and effectively from home
  • Record all call details on Purchase Orders
  • OneDrive filing system must be adhered to, kept precise & tidy within the established filing categories
  • Provide any other technical support to the team or ad hoc duty as required which is deemed appropriate to the level of the postholder
  • Own car & driving license

Other Key Considerations:

  • Awareness of all vehicle legislation to maintain compliance
  • Maintain robust records in regard to servicing, maintenance and defect reporting
  • Strong IT skills
*The role will move to working from home but not until October time, until then the successful applicant would need to be able to commute to Telford daily.
