We are looking to appoint a Head of Safeguarding to join our Trust Senior Leadership Team.

You will be a champion for safeguarding for all our young people and employees across the Trust, supporting our vision and values.

The postholder will lead on the strategic development of the Trust Safeguarding policy and practice and drive excellence in this important area.

You will work closely with the Human Resources Team to ensure all our employees meet the required standards in relation to safeguarding and safer recruitment.


The successful applicant will also be responsible for supporting our schools with the monitoring and evaluating of provision safeguarding practices in line with KCSIE and the latest national safeguarding policy.

The importance of cultivating a safeguarding culture at the heart of everything we do is paramount and you will advise and support Trustees, SAST Executive Leaders, Headteachers and Designated Safeguarding Leads in meeting those standards through conducting reviews, providing training and supporting colleagues in managing safeguarding concerns in accordance with the appropriate Government and Local Authority statutory and legal compliance.

SAST is a strong and ambitious Trust of both primary and secondary schools seeking to ensure an excellent and sustainable 0-19 education for children within our community across West and North Dorset as well as South Somerset.

The Trust now consists of 5,000 children and over 850 staff working in our 17 schools and shared services teams.


You are asked to provide the following:

The Trust and School follows the national and Somerset policies and procedures for child protection and security and the interview will include questions about safeguarding children._ Current and/or previous employers will be contacted for references as part of the verification process pre-appointment checks if the applicant is short listed. _The successful applicant will be required to undertake an enhanced disclosure check with the Disclosure and Barring Service._
