Solent NHS Trust is seeking to appoint a Consultant in Community Diabetes to a well established service.

The post arises from a review of the diabetes strategy in the City of Southampton and will support joint working with the newly configured Primary Care Networks.

The applicant will be registered with the GMC have a CCT in Diabetes and Endocrinology or equivalent.

The service was established in 2005.

There have been many changes to the service specification, but the present appointment is the result of an envisaged expansion of the service.

The Solent West (Southampton) Community Diabetes Service is the main provider of specialist outpatient diabetes opinion for the City.

The team works closely with colleagues in the acute Trust at University Hospital Southampton where some of the specialty clinics reside (Paediatrics, Obstetrics in-patients and insulin pumps).

At the present time, the community service works to a limited specification as the commissioning direction has been on primary care holding the main responsibility for people with diabetes.

However, a recently agreed local diabetes strategy has revised that position with the result that the specialist services will be expanded to work more closely with primary care networks (PCNs).
