This is an exciting opportunity to join the Obstetrics & Gynaecology Team at Glangwili General Hospital.

Applications are invited from efficient and suitably qualified individuals for the post of a full time Band 4 Medical Secretary within the Obstetrics & Gynaecology Team based at Glangwili General Hospital, Carmarthen on a fixed term 12 month basis to cover maternity leave.


You will undertake a wide-range of duties including receipt and distribution of mail, audio transcription, and the typing of highly sensitive letters and reports, maintaining confidentiality at all times, in addition to operation of the Health Board's patient database system.

You will be expected to demonstrate excellent organisation skills and be flexible and adaptable in your approach to work.

You must be able to work on your initiative, use tact and diplomacy where appropriate and possess excellent communication skills.


Experience of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and E-Mail, coupled with proven secretarial skills (including audio typing skills) and previous experience of medical terminology is essential.


Hywel Dda University Health Board is the planner and provider of NHS healthcare services for people in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and its bordering counties.

Bronglais General in Aberystwyth, Glangwili General in Carmarthen, Prince Philip in Llanelli and Withybush General in Haverfordwest;

48 general practices (six of which are managed practices), 47 dental practices (including three orthodontic), 99 community pharmacies, 44 general ophthalmic practices (43 providing Eye Health Examination Wales and 34 low vision services) and 17 domiciliary only providers and 11 health centres;
Numerous locations providing mental health and learning disabilities services;

Highly specialised and tertiary services commissioned by the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee, a joint committee representing seven health boards across Wales.
