Background to the Post


We are seeking a Residential Warden to reside in the accommodation one night a week and then a weekend every six weeks at Moreton Morrell College.

This will be to cover evening and weekend residential wardening duties and emergency phone cover for students living in our Residential properties.

You would operate in a team on a rota basis, with support from Student Wardens.


A key role would be played in supporting residential students with all welfare issues and providing guidance and undertaking recreational activities.

There may also be additional responsibilities where under 18 students are concerned under the Minimum Care Standards inspected by Ofsted.

The post holders will report directly to the Senior Warden at the specific site.

Accommodation room is provided free of charge whilst on shift only, this is not a live in position. Hours are paid for while on duty and a call out rate for out of hours while on shift.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • To be a part of a Residential team and to carry out such duties, to help maintain a safe, enjoyable and active community life. The duties may vary slightly depending on what site you are working on.
  • Sleepover on site and to be on call when on shift out of hours. A mobile phone will be provided. To work in a team rota and get support from Student Wardens.
  • To communicate with the residential team on site and the Senior Residential Warden on a daily basis to ensure all student welfare and support needs are dealt with, working with other College services and external agencies where necessary.
  • Maintain College standards and discipline within the student halls and report all student disciplinary matters to the Senior Residential Warden.
  • Provide initial support to students regarding any personal or emotional problems they may be experiencing.
  • Provide supervision for any Social and Recreational events and to ensure that warden activities are carried out on a weekly basis as required by specific sites.
  • Respond to callouts during out of hours when on Duty.
  • Maintain security of premises, locking/unlocking, operation of fire and intruder alarms and key holder responsibilities as required.
  • Act as Fire Officer for the Halls, doing regular Fire Drills and notify estates and the Senior Residential Warden of any issues with fire/safety equipment or signage as per College Health and Safety regulations.
  • Provide emergency First Aid cover for the Halls of Residence.
  • To meet students who arrive outside normal working hours and give them keys and induct them into the residences.
  • Attend regular meetings with the Senior Warden and Wardening team to ensure quality of provision and to update the team on any specific issues that may be relevant.
  • To complete termly Residential Development Plans for all of our under 18 students or students with a current EHCP in place to aid in the development within the residencies.
  • To attend as required all compulsory sessions put on for under 18 students who reside in the accommodation.

In order to support during busy exam periods, you may be asked to undertake exam invigilator duties. The College will provide training.

The College offers a generous annual leave entitlement to support staff, commencing with 25 days rising to 28 days after 5 years' service, pro rata per annum plus 8 statutory days (Public & bank Holidays) and College closure days (all pro rata for part time posts).


Hours of Work


The post holder will be expected to work such hours as are necessary for the proper performance of their duties and responsibilities, this is an hourly paid post.


Place of work
The principal place of work will be the College's premises based at our Moreton Morrell College.

However, the post holder may be required to work on either a temporary or an indefinite basis at any premises at which we may provide services.
