Background


LUR is a joint venture between Lucchini RS group of Italy and Unipart Rail Ltd, combining the wheel and axle machining & wheelset & gearbox capabilities in Manchester with the bogie overhaul and wheelset trading activities in Doncaster.

The bogie division provides a complete 'depot to depot' bogie overhaul service to train operators and owners.


Overall Purpose of the role
Responsible for the operation of a section within the Doncaster Production Bogie unit.

To coordinate, lead and control a small team of operatives in a specific section or area of work, ensuring that all scheduled output is achieved safely, on time to agreed quality standards.

Whilst this is a supervisory role, it will require 'hands on' responsibilities for the overhaul process of bogies. Promoting a culture that embraces effective change, teamwork ethics and harmony. Decisions made in this role affect the whole business unit and ultimately the businesses success. Specific focus on health, safety, environmental and energy compliance in line with company targets.


Responsibilities & Duties

Safety
  • Manage the daily safety of all employees within your area by creating an active safety culture where all staff members share the same, beliefs, perceptions and values towards HSE and its criticality within the workplace, 'Safety First'.

Quality

  • Ensure all staff in your section adhere to the Quality specifications by fostering a 'Right First Time' approach to all work undertaken within the area. Ensure staff are well versed with both the route cards and the specifications, driving sustainable improvements to ensure quality issues aren't repeated. Follow the company procedure for escalating quality concerns and ensure nonconforming material is clearly identified and segregated.

Delivery:


  • Ensure production throughput against the schedule is met by setting daily targets for all employees within your area. Inform individuals of their role within the team and their criticality to ensure production targets are achieved. Highlight and manage issues relating to output immediately allowing them to be resolved, thus not impacting output or efficiency. Monitor the areas performance in line with the plan to ensure customer deliveries are not compromised.

Cost - **Identify business improvement opportunities and assist in the implementation by working closely with the businesses Continuous Improvement team. Increase awareness of the need to streamline and improve processes as well as advance the Quality and Safety across the business. Improvements will have measurable benefits in terms of reduced process times, minimized risk or decreased rework, all of which will have tangible cost assigned.

This is a shift based position, based on alternating two shifts, days and afters. Competitive salary and shift allowance.


Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience

  • Experience of managing small diverse teams.
  • Supervisory/leadership experience/training would be an advantage.
  • Preferably a minimum two years' posttrade apprenticeship experience at LUR.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels both written and verbal.
  • Proactive problem solver / team player.
