As Infrastructure Team Lead you will have a vital role within the Building and Cities (BNC) Midlands team, responsible for leading and managing the growing Infrastructure Team (Highways and Light Rail) in a large team based in the Birmingham office and working on Midlands, national and international projects.

You will work in collaboration with the Midlands Transport and Infrastructure Account Lead and the BNC Infrastructure Resource Lead, to lead and direct the team to drive and deliver profitable sustainable growth.

As well as an experienced team lead we are looking for someone with business development experience within the highways sector who can work closely with the Account Lead to grow our workload in this market.


As Team Lead you will be expected to:

  • Deliver and embed all relevant Sector and Unit strategies within the Team, working closely with the relevant Account Leaders, and establish an acute, in depth awareness of the local market environment and demonstrate sound business, financial and growth centred management.
  • You will have a focus on our Cities market with highways work focusing on active travel, public transport and place making from a highways perspective.
  • You will have a focus on continually improving employee engagement, retention, wellbeing and career development opportunities for all in the team, by utilising appropriate people management processes and principles, thereby contributing towards making Mott MacDonald the employer of choice.   • Engage with clients in the Highways sector including Local Authorities, developers and contractors to identify and capture highways opportunities. Our focus is on our Cities market which includes active travel, modal shift, public transport, futures and place making projects in and between urban areas.
  • Work with our innovation and digital teams to promote the use of leading edge technical capability throughout the Infrastructure sectors, encouraging continuous improvement, innovation and learning within the team.
  • Grow and nurture external relationships and build and maintain strong networks with key clients, business partners and competitors, driving joint initiatives where appropriate and using these networks to influence and impact the growth and direction of the team.
  • Ensure sufficient resourcing across the team to meet the business requirements, engaging with the Resource Leader and key stakeholders where appropriate
  • Establish and nurture an innovative, challenging, collaborative and high performing work environment, which supports and fosters the Mott MacDonald values and culture
  • Be an integral part of our project delivery undertaking operational work as project principal/director overseeing project delivery and managing multidisciplinary project teams on large and complex projects through the win and delivery phases and collaborating with other business units and sectors.

Required for the position of Midlands Infrastructure Team Lead:

  • Experience of winning work within the Highways sector, with a particular focus on asset management, active travel, air quality improvements, road space reallocation and urban development.
  • Excellent people management skills, team oriented with the ability to work closely with peers; ability to delegate, motivate and empower individuals and teams and create a high performing and enjoyable work environment.
  • Ability to connect our Buildings and Cities agenda to our purpose, developing and drawing on leading edge capability in, among others: digital innovation; climate resilience and social outcomes.
  • An inspirational leader with a positive and nurturing approach when delivering challenges and change
