Job summary:


The Education group is responsible for developing and setting inspection/regulation policy for: early years settings; maintained, independent and unregistered schools; local area SEND provision; initial teacher education; and further education and skills providers.

It is also responsible for inspector training and has oversight of quality assurance and complaints about Ofsted.

The Education group is made up of education remit and flexible policy teams, the inspector training team and the inspection quality and complaints teams.

To support the development of policy and frameworks across the Education Directorate.

This post provides a good opportunity to gain experience in a policy environment.

The work is rewarding and varied, and the post holder will have responsibility for agreed aspects of school inspection and multi-academy trust policy.


Job description:

Person specification:

This is an overview of the role and is not exhaustive. Ofsted reserves the right to assign other duties commensurate with the
B3 grade as required.

  • To support the timely production and development of high quality policy, guidance, instruments and templates relating to education inspections.
  • To manage and deal effectively with policy enquiries and to provide initial draft responses to briefings, letters that go out from His Majesty's Chief Inspector, freedom of information requests, presentations and general correspondence.
  • To research policy issues as directed by senior officers and support managers.
  • To provide high quality administrative support for projects across the Schools and Early Education policy team.
  • To work closely with a range of external and internal stakeholders, liaise productively with internal colleagues and external customers as appropriate.
  • To develop and maintain effective SharePoint sites to support the work of the team and to perform general administrative duties.
  • To perform secretariat duties for meetings including: arranging dates and room bookings, drafting agendas, coordinating and circulating papers, minutetaking, and following up on actions.
