The University of Manchester Library is one of only five National Research Libraries and the third largest academic library in the UK.

We are currently recruiting a Systems Assistant to join the Digitisation team. The successful applicant will be working alongside and supporting the Systems Support Analyst in the Digitisation team.

As the Systems Assistant for digitisation in The University of Manchester Library, you will be responsible for:

  • Supporting the Systems Support Analyst (Digitisation) in assisting in the delivery of the Librarys digital preservation service.
  • Supporting the Librarys digital image service Luna, its digital preservation system Preservica, and its collections management system EMu.
  • Providing training in the above systems, and in use of digitisation equipment for library staff as required
  • Supporting digitisation projects, as required
  • Developing and maintaining a good working knowledge of Library digital object production, management and display systems
  • Liaising with the IT Support Team, with equipment suppliers and with central university IT Services.
  • Collaborating with colleagues in discovery, metadata, and collection management to maintain accurate metadata records relating to digitised objects.
  • Supplying statistics to support the operational and strategic requirements of the library.
  • Writing and updating procedural guides relevant to the above tasks, under the direction of the Digitisation Technical Manager
- supporting the investigation of new AI products relevant to Digital Preservation and Digitisation

  • A general understanding of academic library procedures and operations


You will be providing a high quality and user focused service and your great communication skills mean you work equally as well with Library staff, central IT Services and the external suppliers of our services.

The Library operates within a Hybrid Working Framework and this role is categorised as fully Hybrid.

This will typically involve working a number of days a week on campus but with the option of some remote working.

The days working on campus may vary week to week as required.
