Description

Achieving sustained behaviour change in the context of complex obesity is a physically, mentally and socially challenging process requiring support and compassion towards the patients undertaking this journey.

Our service is committed to promoting effective assessment and interventions in weight management within an outpatient setting delivering care via a variety of face to face and digital media to allow for accessibility and ongoing support.

We believe that working in partnership with an expert by experience helps create a deeper understanding of this complexity, co-construct meaningful and effective interventions, and de-stigmatise health and social difficulties.

As a Peer Support Worker (PSW), you'll use your own experience to encourage, inspire and inform others to support them on their health and wellbeing journey.

You will be a highly valued member of the multidisciplinary team (MDT), contributing to our group-based intervention and engaging service users via our digital platform.

Your valued input will help service users achieve their weight management and health goals and live the life that is meaningful for them.

You will receive induction, training and ongoing supervision.

  • To develop knowledge and understanding of the principles of complex weight management including specific dietary and psychological methodology used within the City and Hackney Specialist Weight Management Service
  • To establish a supportive and respectful relationship with service users in our 12week group intervention programme, 9month maintenance programme, and onetoone programme.
  • Attend weekly group intervention sessions, monthly maintenance sessions, and ad hoc group or 1:1 sessions as needed; including evening sessions.
  • To facilitate and partake in practical sessions supporting treatment content with service users such as supermarket trips/cooking classes to improve engagement and understanding
