Principle Responsibilities will Include:

Provide leadership in relation to organisational culture, to ensure it is open, honest, just and focused on continued learning and improvement in relation to safeguarding practices To provide specialist advice, guidance, and support to HUC staff on identifying safeguarding adults and children concerns, advocating the voice of the patient and ensuring a think family approach.

To provide specialist safeguarding advice, support, supervision, and training to all HUC employees to help support best outcomes for children, young people and adults.

To ensure clear plans are in place to manage identified concerns and make referrals to relevant agencies and obtain feedback from referrals submitted to complete the patient journey.

To assist in the HUC safeguarding process to ensure that all safeguarding concerns identified by HUC staff are triaged and referred to the appropriate local authority and shared with health partners as required.


To promote inter-agency working and sharing of information across Safeguarding Adult Board and Children Partnerships, in line with GDPR guidance.

To represent HUC both internally and externally in groups including subgroups of the local Safeguarding Partnerships / Boards and cascade learning to the organisation and assist in any procedural changes or learning events as required.

To ensure liaison internally and externally with partnership agencies such hospitals, GPs.

District Nurses, Health Visitors, School Nurses, Mental health services, LAC Specialist Nurses, Social Services, Police, and other statutory and voluntary stakeholders.


To contribute to the development, implementation and auditing of robust safeguarding adult and childrens practices, policies and procedures in line with national and local requirements.

To assist in providing assurance to the HUC Board that systems and processes are in place to safeguard children, young people, families and vulnerable adults.

To participate in the collection of data as required in safeguarding Adult and childrens incidents such as Adult Safeguarding reviews, (SARs), serious incident (SI) investigations and compile chronology of such cases as delegated by the Head of Safeguarding To collect, analyse and produce statistical data on safeguarding concerns acknowledged by HUC staff identifying any trends or areas for health promotion and raising awareness.

To work with the Head of Safeguarding to ensure that HUC meets its statutory duties in line with section 11 of the Children Act 2004 and Care Act of 2014.


To support the Head of Safeguarding on the HUC Safeguarding agenda and collate safeguarding reports as required, to meet HUCs contractual obligations.

To assist in keeping HUC informed of any changes affecting practice and any relevant local or national policies that may affect the services offered to children, young people, and adults.

To have knowledge of the local and national agenda with regards to adult and Childrens Safeguarding.

To assists in developing and amend local policies, procedures, or training accordingly and provide appropriate briefings to staff and senior managers.

To be able to work both as part of a team and independently to plan, priorities and organise workloads.

GOVERNANCE Assist in ensure that HUC has appropriate policies, procedures, and guidance in place to support staff in effectively discharging their safeguarding responsibilities and these are reviewed within policies.

Contribute to the development of standards for safeguarding Adult and children and an audit programme which will monitor, evaluate, and improve the quality and effectiveness of safeguarding practice within HUC in line with contractual requirements.

Assist to investigating any complaints relating to safeguarding adults and children as appropriate.


Contribute to ensuring that all recommendations, arising from the investigation, are put into robust action plans that lead to improvements in practice and address any areas of concern and are monitored for delivery.

Contribute to HUC internal incident processes, including undertaking root cause analysis and serious incident (SI) inquiries into cases that involve children.

To support the Head of Safeguarding to produce Safeguarding reports for HUC Board and its partners as requested. Where identified, escalate concerns/gaps in service provision and develop/monitor action plans to address.


To contribute to updating and maintaining the Safeguarding Adult Children information available to staff in all assessment tools used within HUC and ensuring that clinicians can assess information as appropriate in a timely manner.

To assist in inspections, which include support base audits in order to allow HUC to meet its expected standards, as identified through the CCG/CQC reviews.

CLINICAL SUPPORT Contribute to the child death and other reviews, including LeDer, along with serious case reviews as requested by its partners.
