We are looking to recruit a Full time Community Phlebotomist to be part of a wider Phlebotomy team.

Following a period of training and working with the main team at Treliske, with the expectation to work on our busy Phlebotomy Inpatients service covering ward work and occasional rotation to the Haematology and Oncology Clinics.

whilst in training at RCHT you will be expected to an early start at 7am.


The Community Phlebotomist role will be based on a rotation basis to our new opening of Bodmin Phlebotomy service, West Cornwall in Penzance, and the potential of Camborne/Redruth Hospital.


This is an exciting time to join an expanding team as we look to build new services for our patients across Cornwall.

We are looking for full time members of staff who are prepared to work remotely or across multiple sites.

Hours of work will cover 7 days per week on a shift pattern.

This Role is to perform Venepuncture with a team of Phlebotomist whilst providing optimum patient care.


To participate in the provision of a team of Community Phlebotomists in supporting patients out in the community requiring any routine, emergency and elective blood tests.

Sustainability is integral to the Trust achieving the NHS Net Zero target. All staff are therefore actively encouraged and supported to implement new ways of working within their field of expertise.


To visit the Community diagnostic hubs in Cornwall and outreach clinics to take venous blood samples from patients as requested by a doctor or a member of the nursing staff and in accordance with written procedures.


To ensure that your responsibilities for the prevention of infection control are fulfilled by following all Trust policies, guidelines, and protocols.

To arrange delivery to the appropriate laboratories according to current Pathology policy.

To undertake first line tests on blood samples in accordance with written procedures.

To respect patient Confidentiality and Dignity.


At all times to work in accordance with the procedures and policies of the Trust, in particular Clinical Skills training package (Practice development) and Health and Safety.

To relate to the Lead Phlebotomist on a regular basis to keep up to date and receive regular training.

Liaise with all laboratories as required with respect to sample and labelling requirements.

To adhere to the Pathology Specimen Acceptance Policy, Guidelines and Procedures.
