Waste Transfer Station Supervisor - Belfast, United Kingdom - Lynn Recruitment
Description
Your Duties:
- Inspect the quality of deposited wastes to ensure only permitted items are accepted and transferred to landfill.
- Oversee internal and contracted plant hire operators, haulage contracts, and other related contracts.
- Assist with precontract meetings and conduct regular performance management meetings with contractors.
- Ensure compliance with Duty of Care Regulations by inspecting incoming waste and monitoring driver documentation.
- Maintain Waste Transfer Station infrastructure through a planned maintenance program and liaison with relevant units.
- Supervise improvements in site infrastructure to ensure security, traffic control, and adherence to safety measures.
- Issue and replenish fuel for councilowned plant, maintaining detailed records and ensuring stock security.
- Ensure all site operations comply with Health & Safety legislation and council guidance.
- Provide induction training on health and safety, risk assessments, and safe working practices for various user groups.
- Produce and maintain health and safety guidance documents for distribution to all site users.
- Conduct regular site inspections to maintain compliance with ISO 18001 and ISO 14001 accreditation.
- Report the presence of unauthorised persons on site to senior management.
- Motivate and manage assigned staff, reviewing and implementing a proper training and development program.
- Participate in induction and inservice training provided by Belfast City Council and support human resource management policies.
- Participate as directed in the council's selection interview program.
Your Profile:
- Membership of a professional institute related to Civil or Construction Engineering and/or Waste Management.
- Certificate of Technical Competence in Waste Management relating to Managing Transfer Operations
- Biodegradable Waste (Level 4).
Experience:
- Working and controlling materials received at a waste transfer site or controlling materials at a civil engineering site.
- Directing and controlling the movement and location of discharging activities of commercial or local authority vehicles with loads exceeding 10 tonnes.
Special Skills and Attributes:
- Technical Knowledge: Define landfill restoration actions, address waste transfer station environmental concerns.
- Communication Skills: Possess basic literacy, give clear oral instructions, provide operational information.
- Team Working and
Leadership Skills:
Lead and encourage a small team, teach operational procedures, prioritise tasks.
- Health and
Safety Awareness:
Understand responsibilities in high-risk areas, grasp operational safety procedures.
- Customer Care Skills: Respond to customer needs in a helpful manner.
- Resource Management Skills: Monitor operational resources, maintain detailed records, and provide regular reports.
