Are you a highly experienced Payroll professional who would like to join the NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership Payroll team at a Senior level?


As part of a Team of three Heads of Payroll, you will be responsible for delivering Payroll, Pensions, Lease Cars and Expenses Services for a combined payroll of 115,000 employees both Monthly, Weekly and cross pay frequency for NHS Wales as part of the Employment Services Team.


You will be responsible for the Strategic Leadership and Direction of a large team within payroll, along with a speciality area, of either Expenses, Pensions, or Overpayments.


You will have a proven track record of delivering highly complex, high volume, accurate payroll and Pensions Services, ideally you will have worked as Head of Payroll within the NHS or Public Sector.

You must be CIPP qualified and have significant knowledge of Payroll and Pension legislation and ESR/Oracle experience would be advantageous.

You will play pivotal role in driving the changes, improvements and efficiencies in the service.


Responsible for the Management & Performance of the Payroll Services which provides a Payroll, Expenses, Pensions Administration Service, Lease Cars, Overpayments and SME (Subject Matter Expert) advise to Welsh Government, to 13 NHS Organisations and Welsh Government to the value of £3 billion per annum.

Each Head of Payroll will be directly accountable for a third of the All-Wales provision.

To provide strategic leadership and direction for the Service and represent the service at a strategic level in relation to the development of Service provision within the Team, with collaborative engagement with the other Heads of Payroll to provide a synergy across the teams representing NWSSP and All Wales on pay related issues at All Wales forums,

To provide expert specialist advice on matters relating to Payroll Systems, Payroll Procedures, Expenses, and NHS Pensions.


To undertake a specialist area on an All-Wales basis, in terms of providing strategic planning, design and ongoing evaluation of the services - Overpayments, Lease Cars/Expenses, Pensions and All Wales advice.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
