An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Genomics and Molecular Medicine department of Nottingham University Hospitals as Quality, Assurance and Health and Safety Lead.

The department which is part of the Pathology Directorate also forms part of the East Genomics Laboratory Service.

The Genomics and Molecular Medicine department, formed by two UKAS accredited laboratory services, provides a regional constitutional and malignancy service for a population of 2.5million.

The department is based in a purpose built Genetics Centre shared with the Clinical Genetics Services.
The laboratory has a programme to support CPD and would encourage any staff wishing to develop themselves.

Main duties of the job

The main duties include but are not limited to:
The provision of information to support performance against regulatory standards


Supporting the Quality Managers with the development and progress of a rolling programme of compliance audits, activities and actions that comprise the annual plan and management review objectives across the Genomics and Molecular Medicine department.

Providing professional governance, quality and health and safety management advice, guidance and support

The production of high quality reports and presentation of findings including complex information both verbally and in written format to a wide range of stakeholders


Maintaining up to date and in depth knowledge of UKAS standards to asses compliance with standards across the Genomics and Molecular Medicine department.

Essential criteria

  • First degree or equivalent demonstrable experience
  • Relevant specialist qualification or equivalent experience in specialist field to post graduate diploma level
Desirable criteria

  • Clinical or scientific qualification
Experience

Essential criteria

  • Recent substantial experience in an internal audit / compliance role demonstrating specialist knowledge in area of expertise
  • Experience of change management and ability to demonstrate implementing changes to own work area and influence others.
  • Specialist knowledge and experience of statistical, analytical and numerical techniques within an audit environment
Desirable criteria

  • An understanding of Pathology procedures and operations
  • Awareness of Quality, Health and Safety, Patient Safety and HR Issues
Communication and relationship skills

Essential criteria

  • Ability to write reports with inclusion of complex data and formulate procedures
  • Ability / experience of training in others in own field of expertise
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office to a high standard, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook.

  • Able to take responsibility for own work and work without direct supervision where appropriate
