We are looking for an enthusiastic Radiology Assistant to work within all modalities of Radiology at the Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital, Margate, to assist Radiographers, Nurses and Radiologists in the care of patients undergoing radiological procedures and provide support to all health care professionals within the multi-disciplinary team.

Applicants must have excellent communication skills and work well as part of a team. This post will include shifts between the hours of 8am - 8pm, including weekends and bank

  • To assist in the care of patients undergoing radiological procedures; across multiple modalities. Undertaking clinical procedures under supervision; contributing to patient care and safety whilst in the department.
  • A key element of the role is to provide administrative assistance to ensure effective work flow.
  • You will be required to work in all areas of the department including MRI, CT and Ultrasound.
Our hard-working and progressive Radiology team work across our 3 acute sites as well as supporting our satellites sites.

KEYRESULT AREAS

  • Contribute to a positive patient / service user experience within the radiology department.
  • Enable timely and effective use of radiography and radiologist time through effective administration of clinics, appointments and flow through the department.
  • Patients / service users receive safe and effective support and treatment whilst undergoing radiological procedures.
  • Deliver high quality care to patients under direct supervision of nursing staff.
  • Utilise evidencebased healthcare practice in clinical areas in order to maintain standards of care.
  • Participate in and promote interdisciplinary team working, liaising closely with all of those involved in the care setting in order to ensure continuity of care.
  • To attend and complete the Care Certificate
  • To attend all relevant study days associated with the Care Certificate
  • To ensure that appropriate channels of referral are utilised for matters not within their sphere of competence in order to promote safe practice.
  • Participate in the identification of areas for development being actively involved in the process of change as required.
  • Ensure that the Trust's Operational Policies and Procedures are adhered to.

Safe Care:


  • Ensure the clinical environment is clean, tidy and well presented to ensure a safe treatment area for patients / service user, and staff.
  • Deliver care to patients under the supervision / direction of the nursing and radiology team, this will include specific interventions and the recording of vital signs.
  • Where required act as a chaperone for patients / service users on request or when intimate examinations are carried out.
  • Minimise the risk of harm to patients, staff and visitors by working according to the Trust risk management policy including participating in risk assessments as required.
  • Work to eliminate avoidable infection by working according to Infection control policies
  • Assisting in the care of patients, to include moving patients, escorting patients and relatives and assisting radiographers, the nursing team and other staff with clients that have special needs.
  • To assist with movement and transfer of equipment as required and to observe a personal duty of care when operating equipment. Ensure all equipment is maintained and safe to use.
  • Ensuring at all times to maintain the patients Privacy, Dignity and Confidentiality.
Effective Use of Resources

  • Ensure all health records / results are managed within information governance standards, facilitating clinic preparation and accurate health record keeping.
  • Responding to queries in a timely and professional manner, from patients and all other service users.
  • Support the effective use of clinical stock and equipment, delegated responsibility for some aspects of stock control and ordering of supplies.
  • Ensure patient appointments / cancellations and changes are recorded and processed effectively to ensure best use of clinical / imaging capacity.
  • Competent in the use of data management systems within radiology; PAS and Soliton systems

Safety:


  • Report any concerns, problems, incidents or near misses to your line manager or senior colleague on shift, and the Trust incident reporting systems.
  • Work to the Trust standards, and be aware of the requirements of the Health & Safety at Work Act as well as local Radiation Protection Regulations.
  • Contribute to the safety of self, staff and patients/visitors with regard to the use of ionising radiation in accordance with appropriate regulations
