An interesting and exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join the Dermatology Service at Nottingham University hospitals as a Cancer Care Co-ordinator.

Main duties of the job

To support the Skin Cancer team in delivering a high standard of support to patients with cancer. This will involve being in daily contact with patients.

The post-holder will be expected to support and signpost patients over the telephone and progress their care pathway in liaison with other colleagues and departments in the hospital.

The post-holder will also be expected to be involved with Audit and Peer Review processes.


The post holder will need to be flexible and self-motivated with a good attention to detail and the initiative to work independently as well as a team.

This post is key in providing high quality information and ensuring patient's progress effectively on the cancer pathway.


The post holder will work closely with staff across the wider trust including clinicians, general managers, deputy managers, nurses, secretaries and other administrative staff.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To work as a member of the Skin Cancer nursing team and providing patient coordination and care. The post holder will support ensuring a smooth and efficient service for patients by navigating and signposting them throughout their complex timed cancer pathway. Navigation will commence from the point of referral for suspicion of cancer and will support the cancer service in implementing and achieving the timed cancer optimal pathway, to achieve definitive diagnosis by day 2
  • Collaborate and communicate with the Skin Cancer team and wider Multidisciplinary Team to ensure the provision of appropriate services to maximise the health and quality of life of the patient, improving the quality and efficiency of health care delivery. The post holder will act as a single point of contact for patients and their families and as a liaison point between team care members.
  • Triage enquiries to the appropriate department within the hospital or community setting. Actively participate in the provision of routine information and advice, for patients and carers over the telephone, liaising with the Skin Cancer team as appropriate.
  • The postholder will identify and resolve barriers to patients' care pathway, by communicating sensitively with patients throughout their cancer pathway and liaising with health professionals to ensure all tests and appointments are scheduled, booked into next pathway step and attended in a timely manner particularly diagnostic bundling in the care pathway (in accordance with national standards &Trust policies).

Training & Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • 4 GCSEs (or equivalent) at Grade C or above including English Language
  • NVQ Level 3 in Admin, Customer Services or a Health or Social Care qualification or equivalent experience
Experience

Essential criteria

  • Significant admin experience including use of clinical systems
  • Recent experience of working within an NHS setting
  • Experience of handling highly sensitive information
Desirable criteria

  • Understanding of the cancer waiting times agenda
