Base Location:

Perth, Edinburgh (with a requirement to be based in office 2-3 days per week, with flexibility to work from home / another SSE office the remainder of the week).


Salary:

What is the Role?


We are looking to recruit a talented individual as a Senior Energy Trader with a genuine interest in developing their career with one of the UK's leading energy companies.

As a Senior Energy Trader, your primary focus will be to help ensure our energy portfolio is economically managed and is competitive in the marketplace.

To do this you will carry out market transactions to manage the risk and seek trading opportunities within the GB and EU energy markets.

Additionally, you will carry out trading analysis to support decision making process, as well as develop and deliver new market-based trading strategies.

This will include providing advice to senior management and other SSE business units on market conditions and make recommendations towards hedging strategies.


Some of your main accountabilities will include:

  • Execute financial and physical transaction across energy products in the GB and EU energy markets. Execution of trading and hedging strategies, via brokers and screen-based exchanges within appropriate company approvals, based on experience and information gained in markets.
  • Optimise hedging orders from SSE's businesses to maximise profit & minimise losses through analysis of key market fundamentals and internal processes.
  • Add value and contribute to Budget targets through creation and execution of trading strategies and assist in development of analytical models.
  • Market and counterparty intelligence reporting, including supply chain analysis and report on competitor and customer commercial strategies.
  • Provide desk cover across all products.

What do I need?
To be successful in this role we would love you to have:

  • A successful track record in a trading environment related capacity along with and demonstrable knowledge of industry players, industry structure and commercial mechanisms and drivers.
  • To be, preferably, educated to degree level, in a numerical discipline such as, but not limited to, Mathematics, Science, Engineering, Economics.
  • Strong numeracy and communication skills with the ability to use MS Office suite of products. Programming knowledge, such as VBA, Databases, Python and other programming languages, would be beneficial.
  • Energy and drive to succeed, with proven examples of overcoming challenges to deliver success, independently and as part of a team, in a highly pressurised environment.
  • Diligent, responsible and reliable with a close attention to detail and fundamental respect for internal and external governance.
