  • Job descriptionApplications are invited from Constables interested in becoming part of the Armed Response Vehicles (ARV) Teams.

Our ARV Teams are expected to maintain armed support to the force in respect of general policing and to respond to the demands in respect of counter terrorism.

The ARV teams are responsible for the 24/7 spontaneous armed response to incidents, in addition to supporting the roads policing response to serious and fatal road traffic collisions.

The Force also expects that AFOs will have the tenacity and skills required to support their colleagues across the Force to manage local risk and target those who cause greatest harm to our communities.

It is extremely important to us that our department reflects the diversity found within the Force and communities we serve.

Diversity in armed policing brings different ways of thinking and problem solving which is very beneficial to a firearms team.

Historically armed policing has not often been considered a career choice by people from a minority characteristics including women, neurodiverse and ethnic minorities but we would encourage people with protected characteristics to look into the role, requirements and the support provided for all officers who join the department and consider applying.

If you have any specific questions or concerns we would welcome the opportunity to discuss them with you.

  • Fairness, respect for all and an understanding of the importance of diversity.
  • Highly motivated, professional and exhibit a high level of integrity.
  • Ability to resolve difficult problems in pressurised situations.
  • Have an aptitude for learning, retaining such information and putting that into operational practise.
  • Have a clear understanding of the force values and an ability to practise those values and impart them on others.
